AI and Learning Language Models (LLM) Learning Community Open Mic [June 28, 2023]

The first call of the newly formed AI and LLMs Learning Community was a discussion around policy development, implementation, and compliance, as well future events, including a possible breakout session at the Fall 2023 HRA Members Meeting (Chicago, Il).

The policy discussion focused on the new NIH peer review and AI policy that was released on June 23, 2023, which can be found at the following links:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) have the potential to be a revolutionary technology, producing seismic shifts to people’s work and health. Already these tools are being used in the biomedical sciences for speeding diagnosis, identifying new therapies, and writing scientific publications and grants.

This learning community will explore how funders can best navigate this rapidly changing landscape by sharing tools, use cases, and resources.  This includes how AI and LLMs are being utilized in science and philanthropy, how they can be leveraged by HRA members, and what members need to be aware of with respect to this exciting technology

The goal of the AI and LLMs Learning Community is to collect and distribute resources and circulate ideas about the quickly developing field of AI and LLMs. This includes how AI and LLMs are being utilized in science and philanthropy, how they can be leveraged by HRA members, and what members need to be aware of with respect to this exciting technology. Potential topics include:

  • Impact of AI and LLMs on grantmaking
  • Impact of AI and LLMs on Patients and patient advocates
  • Tools to use with AI and LLMs
  • Research side of AIs and LLMs

We encouraged attendees to come with any other pressing questions or topics of interest, and asked everyone to add topics and challenges (and any resources) to the google doc on this page (login required) which will be used by the AI/LLMs Learning Community to collect Topic Ideas and Resources.
