Bias Mitigation in Peer Review Training

Bias in peer review of grants and fellowships can affect funding decisions and lead to inequitable outcomes. To reduce the impact of bias during peer review, the Health Research Alliance (HRA) has developed a Bias Mitigation in Peer Review Training for both Program Staff and Reviewers as part of our Inclusive Grantmaking Initiative. Check out the different training options available, and click through to learn more!

Training for Program Staff: Self-Directed & Asynchronous

Training for Program Staff: Asynchronous

This training is available to program staff at all HRA member organizations. The training is situated in the context of peer review meetings, and reviews definitions of bias, literature demonstrating the effects of bias in peer review, and strategies to mitigate bias. Scenarios highlight realistic examples of how bias might present during peer review, and what program staff can do to mitigate it. The training contains audio voiceovers and closed captions, and is designed to be completed in one 30-40 minute sitting.
