    Dear HRA Members,

    We are delighted to share that the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance (PSSCRA) will begin accepting applications for its 2026 Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize on Monday, September 29th, 2025. While the Prize originally started in an effort to support cancer research in the greater New York City area, this year, the eligibility has expanded to include scientists across the United States.

    Prize winners will each be awarded $750,000 over three years to empower them to pursue groundbreaking research at a stage when traditional funding is lacking. A minimum of six prizes will be awarded, depending on the quality of the proposals. We would love your help to ensure that talented and creative scientists know about this funding opportunity.

    Applicants must have:

    • Between two to six years of experience running their own laboratories by the start date of the Prize (July 2026);
    • A PhD, MD, or MD-PhD (or equivalent);
    • Applied to the Prize previously only once before (i.e. applicants may apply to the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize a maximum of two times);
    • Faculty appointments at academic research institutions in the United State of America at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (or equivalent). Please note that this is the first year that scientists from institutions outside of the Greater New York City area are eligible, so please spread the word!!

    The deadline to submit the Letter of Intent is Monday, November 3rd at 5:00pm ET.

    For more details on the application process, including the full eligibility criteria, please see the attached Request for Proposals (RFP) and visit our application submission portal: https://prizeapplication.smapply.io/.

    You can find answers to Frequently Asked Questions here.

    PSSCRA was formed in 2013 by The Pershing Square Foundation in partnership with The Sohn Conference Foundation and is dedicated to playing a catalytic role in accelerating cures for cancer by supporting innovative cancer research and by facilitating collaborations between academia and industry. Annually, it awards the Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize, which provides early-career scientists in the USA the freedom to take risks and pursue their boldest research. Now entering its 13th year, PSSCRA has awarded the Prize to 77 early-career scientists at 14 different institutions in the USA. PSSCRA seeks to guide philanthropic funds to feed critical scientific discoveries, attracting like-minded investors to the cause of fighting cancer. In addition to receiving funding, Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Prize winners are given access to a unique network of leaders in academia, industry, and philanthropy and are invited to participate in select programs. You can view the six exceptional 2025 Prize winners and their research on our website.

    We are happy to answer any questions you may have, and we would greatly appreciate your help getting the word out that the Prize will open for applications nationally on September 29th. Please feel free to share with your newsletter channels, website, and any social media outlets (@psscra) available. We will send you our press release for distribution on September 29th, as well. Thank you in advance for your help.

    With appreciation,

    Pershing Square Sohn Cancer Research Alliance
