DEI Community Call: Open Mic – International Diversity [May 24, 2023]
Health research is an international pursuit, with research being done across the world by scientists from every country. International scientists undoubtedly bring diverse perspectives to the health research field. However, diversity-focused initiatives within the United States vary in their inclusion of international scientists under definitions of ‘diversity.’ In this Open Mic session, the DEI Learning Community invited Health Research Alliance (HRA) members to share their ideas and experiences relating to the following discussion questions:
- How do HRA members conceptualize diversity when funding international scientists (conducting research within the US or in another country)?
- What challenges do you face when funding international scientists, especially as related to advancing DEI?
- How do HRA members that fund international scientists support the inclusion and belonging of their awardees within the health research community?
