Registered Reports: From the Funders’ and Publisher’s Perspectives [Webinar, March 4, 2020]
By conducting peer review prior to data collection, Registered Reports publications emphasize the importance of the research question and the quality of methodology rather than the results of a study. Funders have adopted the Registered Reports format to increase the quality of funded studies to a ‘publication-ready’ peer review journal level, and to enable publication of ‘negative’ results, which can be just as important as ‘positive’ results. Publishers are adopting Registered Reports to incentivize pre-registration and reproducibility and increase scientific rigor. Researchers benefit from increased quality of studies, a clear publication path, and more transparent research.
- Funders’ Perspectives: Salvatore La Rosa (from the Children’s Tumor Foundation) and Simon Noble (from CHDI Foundation) will describe how these 2 organizations use Registered Reports to enhance their funding impact by increasing the quality of the study design.
- Publisher’s perspective: Veronique Kiermer (from PLOS) will discuss how PLOS ONE and PLOS Biology have implemented the Registered Reports model in their article review and plans to increase awareness in the life sciences by partnering with more funders.
